Holguin drops three-run lead and loses
After dominating the contest for a while, Holguin blew a three-run lead to lose a rain-shortened game 7-4 against Metropolitanos. Starter Yusmel Aguilar was left on the mound too long, and the bullpen could not keep the capital’s second team from scoring more runs.
Yordan Manduley got two hits and centerfielder Yoanis Quintana drove in two runs, but Metropolitanos’ starter Abel Viego struck out eight of Holguin’s batters in seven innings, as rain came in and the game was finished.
Errors by second baseman Yeison Pacheco and catcher Franklin Aballe gave way to the tying and the go-ahead runs, which proved to be decisive for the final result. Once again, a key aspect in Holguin’s gameplay undermined the team’s purposes for winning.
Also, Yusmel Aguilar had another solid start, but he was not supported by his defense, and showed signs of fatigue, which were not seen by the team’s management.
