Statue of Jose Marti Rises in Guatemala

Photo: PL  Dozens of Guatemalans and Cubans attended on Thursday the inauguration of the Jose Marti Square, which rises in Guatemalan city to honor ’s National Hero, who took shelter in that Central American country from 1877 to 1878.

Cuban Minister of Culture, Rafael Bernal, Cuba ambassador to Guatemala, Roberto Blanco, and officials, doctors, athletes, and teachers from the Caribbean island working here attended the inauguration ceremony.

Also, members of the Association of Cuban Residents in Guatemala, and the Guatemalan Coordinator of Solidarity with Cuba and the Peoples were present at the event.

A 3.80-meter sculpture of the Cuban independence hero by Guatemalan master sculptor and engineer Efrain Recinos (1928-2011) has been placed in the center of the park.

Marti lived in this Central American nation in 1877 and 1878, where he left a positive impression as a teacher and speaker. / Source: RHC.
